OTC stands for “Over The Counter”. Over-the-counter (OTC) drugs are medicines sold directly to a consumer without a prescription from a healthcare professional, as opposed to prescription drugs, which may only be sold to consumers possessing a valid prescription.
Medicines are substances or preparations which i.a.serve: • To cure, alleviate, prevent or recognize diseases • To recognize or influence physical or mental states • Replace your body’s active ingredients or fluids • to ward off, eliminate or neutralize pathogens, parasites or foreign substances. Medicines consist of one or more drugs (= effective ingredient) and so-called excipients.The excipients give the drug e.g.its stability or its taste. Most commonly, drugs are taken in the oral or liquid form through the mouth.
